"Fantastic router. I previously used the Netgear R7800 with OpenWrt because the original firmware lacked features. The Flint 4 has such a comprehensive system that installing anything else makes no sense. It's fast, very stable, and I've never once managed to get it hot enough to activate the built-in fan. It's a bit pricey, but it's definitely worth the price."
"After owning the Flint 2, Flint 3E, and Flint 3, all of which are excellent routers, I always felt that each one was missing something. With the Flint 4, however, I finally found the mature, complete router I had been waiting for. Everything I wanted from the previous models is finally here: 10G WAN? ✅ Yes! 2. 5G LAN? ✅ Yes! WiFi coverage that reaches every corner of the house? ✅ Absolutely! Enough processing power and memory to handle all the advanced features and functions? ✅ Definitely! GL. iNet has also added a nice extra: a touchscreen display. It's surprisingly useful for monitoring and managing key router functions without needing a PC or smartphone nearby. I directly compared the Flint 4 with the Flint 3 in terms of speed, features, and WiFi coverage, and the results were clear: the Flint 4 comes out on top in every category. Bottom line: the Flint 4 feels like the culmination of the entire Flint series. It's powerful, feature-rich, and finally delivers everything I was looking for in a router without compromises. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended!"
"While this is still based on the same software as other GL. inet Flint routers (of which I own several), this has MUCH improved management for the LANs and ports, and much more visual way to manage the router as a whole. While there are still improvements that can be made, I think that this is the best, and latest demonstration of the commitment of GL. inet to making routers that are top of the line from both hardware, and software. I look forward to them continuing to innovate, especially on the software side, now that the hardware is this good. This router reaffirms why I have now standardized my installation of GL. inet."

"Having previously upgraded my Flint 2 to Vanilla OpenWrt to overcome the limitations of the heavily modified OEM firmware—such as outdated APK management, older kernel versions, missing security patches, and the lack of proper packet steering and WLAN WED support—I was really hoping the Flint 4 would bring a modernized software foundation out of the box. Unfortunately, that is not entirely the case. GL. iNet is still shipping this device on a heavily customized OpenWrt 21 base. While the stock Web UI and mobile app remain intuitive and user-friendly, the underlying OS legacy causes the same familiar friction points regarding kernel features, package management, and system efficiency. On top of the software legacy, the implementation of MLO (Multi-Link Operation) is currently hit-or-miss. Clients are frequently tossed between bands, causing noticeable micro-stutters and brief dropouts during daily use. That being said, hardware-wise, the value proposition is incredible. The price-to-performance ratio is top-tier, raw network throughput is solid, and the stock interface makes basic network management effortless. It gets a strong 4 out of 5 stars because the overall physical package and performance are genuinely positive, but GL. iNet desperately needs to bring their core firmware base up to modern OpenWrt standards and polish the MLO stability."

"The Flint 4 is an absolute beast of a router. It is quite expensive, so I’m glad I managed to get it during the Super Early Bird campaign, but the hardware you get is incredibly capable. Starting with the software, I was quite disappointed to see that the Flint 4 still runs OpenWrt 21. I was coming from a Flint 2, where the stock firmware was already based on OpenWrt 25, so this definitely felt like a step backwards. I assume the main reason is the Wi-Fi implementation. The wireless side is handled in a non-standard way, using a custom MediaTek driver, and it is configured through a custom LuCI application (`luci_app_mtk`) rather than the usual OpenWrt Wireless tab. This becomes particularly annoying when configuring Wi-Fi roaming. It can still be done, but the process is considerably more complicated than it should be. On the hardware side, however, there is very little to complain about. There are ports everywhere, so you can connect pretty much anything you could possibly need. Build quality is excellent, the materials feel premium, and the display is a very nice touch that makes the whole product feel even more high-end. Then we get to a couple of surprisingly basic shortcomings: * On the Flint 2, the wall-mount slots allow the router to be mounted in either orientation. On the Flint 4, they only work in one direction, which means the router is officially meant to be mounted with the ports facing upwards. That makes absolutely no sense to me. By using screws with larger heads and spacing them very carefully, I managed to mount it with the ports facing downwards anyway, but it is far from ideal. * Closely related to that, there is no option to rotate the display by 180 degrees. I can understand why this may not have been considered, since the hardware itself is designed to be mounted in only one orientation, but still. . . the users buying this kind of router are hardly basic users. If mounting it upside down cannot be properly supported, at the very least please give us the option to rotate the display! There is definitely some room for improvement, but overall I am very satisfied with it. P. S. Needless to say, Wi-Fi 7 with MLO works extremely well. The hardware is incredibly powerful; GL. iNet just needs to polish a few aspects of the product. Above all, the software really needs to be brought up to date."
