Flint 2 is a Coverage Champion

"After hours and hours of research, the Flint 2 stands basically alone in 2026 as the coverage champion (WiFi 6+ 4x4 dual-band or better) for large homes (not premium enterprise pricing), which also is supported by OpenWRT. TP-Link EAP683 UR is technically equivalent, but OpenWRT installation requires skilled hardware modifications. UniFi U6-LR appears equivalent, but only offers WiFi 4 on 2. 4 GHz. All newer home network segmented products have abandoned 4x4 for 2. 4 GHz for 2x2, which significantly hurts the extended exterior coverage of indoor-mounted APs. With Flint 2 you get full WiFi 6 4x4 dual-band coverage at a better price than the alternatives and with the simplest possible access to OpenWRT. It also offers powerful router features (including up to 900 Mbps VPN throughput) as a "bonus" without actually penalising your power consumption if you don't use or need them. The Flint 2 is the cheapest core way for large homes to achieve full 5 GHz coverage indoors and 2. 4 GHz coverage outdoors. The drawbacks include Flint 2 being a little bit less discreet and lacking PoE support (without a splitter). You also have to surrender the WiFi 7 dream of 6 GHz coverage, but achieving that across a large home was never going to be cost-effective or feasible with just one or two APs anyway."
