Providing 4G/5G Cellular Connectivity for Recreational Vehicles
Contact SalesBACKGROUND
Providing reliable cellular connectivity to recreational vehicles (RVs) has been a persistent challenge within the networking industry due to a lack of fiber optic infrastructure and a sparse density of cellular towers or base stations in rural or remote locations where the coverage may be limited.
To address this issue, the project aims to maintain a reliable internet connection for RVs by utilizing 4G LTE and 5G NR networks from multiple internet service providers. This approach helps ensure that users have access to the fastest and most reliable connection possible, regardless of their location. This can be achieved through the use of powerful cellular gateways that are designed to connect to multiple networks and provide a seamless switching between them to ensure the best available connection.
Solution
The most suitable device for network deployment in recreational vehicles is GL.iNet's cellular AX3000 gateway - Spitz AX (GL-X3000). The devices can be conveniently deployed on the interior walls of recreational vehicles, and extend a wired dome antenna to the exterior roof of the vehicles for unobstructed signals.
Recommended Products
All of GL.iNet's routers are able to integrate into our SD-WAN solution. All routers are able to run both OpenVPN and WireGuard, supporting more than 30 VPN services; however, each device is optimized for different types of users:
Spitz AX (GL-X3000) - Wi-Fi 6 4G LTE / 5G NR Dual-SIM Gateway. Spitz AX features a 2.5G multigigabit WAN port for fast Ethernet connections and a failover dual-SIM cellular network for uninterrupted network coverage in offices.
Spitz AX (GL-X3000) is equipped with six omnidirectional antennas with powerful long range connectivity in rural areas. Both models are also available to switch into dome antennas with extended cable range, for users to deploy the device within the vehicle and extend the dome antenna towards the exterior of the vehicle for an unobstructed signal.
Multi-WANSpitz AX (GL-X3000) supports Multi-WAN, enabling users to connect to multiple ISPs at once. This feature enhances bandwidth and network reliability, particularly during peak traffic periods. In case of a connection issue on one WAN port, the other WAN port ensures uninterrupted network services.
Load BalancingSpitz AX (GL-X3000) offers load balancing between different connection methods and also between dual SIM Cards. Since signal strength in rural areas varies between internet service providers (ISPs) depending on their coverage infrastructure, load balancing between dual SIM Cards offer the best coverage among two ISPs at all times.
Interchangeable 4G LTE & 5G NR NetworksThe 4G LTE and 5G NR networks are interchangeable, providing users with the best possible connection depending on their location. While 5G NR has the potential to offer greater reliability and faster speeds in urban areas, its availability in rural areas may be limited compared to 4G LTE. In certain rural locations, 4G LTE may offer a more dependable connection. The Spitz AX (GL-X3000) gateway is designed to take advantage of both 4G LTE and 5G NR networks, ensuring users have access to the fastest available speeds when in urban areas and the most reliable connection when in rural areas.
Remote Technical SupportProviding technical support for RVs can be challenging due to limited access to physical assistance in remote locations. To address this issue, Spitz AX (GL-X3000) is equipped with GoodCloud, GL.iNet's remote device management platform, letting technicians remote access the device's admin panel or device terminal via SSH, enabling them to configure router settings and update firmware.
