Preventive Actions to Safeguard GL.iNet Users from BSSID-Based Location Tracking

In response to recent studies revealing that individuals can be tracked through Wi-Fi routers, GL.iNet is taking proactive measures to safeguard the privacy and security of our users. We assure our customers that we take your privacy extremely seriously, and our support team is actively addressing this issue.

While we believe Apple and Google should impose restrictions on querying their databases, we have decided to implement Randomized BSSID in our routers as soon as possible. You can find the release schedule at the bottom of this page.

Temporary Measures to Enhance Your Privacy

1. Add _optout_nomap to Your SSID: Including “_optout_nomap” in your SSID signals to Apple, Google, and Microsoft not to track the location of your Wi-Fi network.

SSID)

2. Hide Your SSID: Concealing your SSID prevents nearby individuals from knowing your network name.

3. Use Randomized BSSIDs: Until we implement this feature in the user interface, you can manually use randomized BSSIDs.

4. Turn Off Phone Location Services: Disabling location services on your phone can help, although it might not be a preferred choice for everyone.

5. Temporary Data Deletion: If you stop your phone from tracking your location for one or two weeks, your data may be deleted from tracking databases.

These quick and easy modifications will help prevent your BSSID from being identified and your location from being exposed. We will continue monitoring this issue and provide updates as needed.
