New Tor firmware for GL-AR150 and GL.iNet6416

The new Tor firmware is built on top of OpenWrt CC1505. Now it comes with Domino Web UI. So you can modify your network settings easily.

Please refer to the attached video to learn how to flash the Tor firmware to your router.

 

How to use:

  • Connect via SSID “tor” or using LAN cable will go through the Tor anonymity network
  • Connect via SSID “OpenWrt” will have normal Internet connection. If you cannot find SSID “OpenWrt”, check the button and switch settings of your router.

Buttons and LEDS:

For GL.iNet 6416:

  • Press the button will turn on/off** SSID OpenWrt**

For GL-AR150:

  • Press the button will turn on/off wifi, including both SSID “Tor” and “OpenWrt”.
  • Move the switch to the Left position will turn off SSID “OpenWrt”; Move the switch to the right position will turn on SSID “OpenWrt”.
  • Middle LED will indicate the status of Tor service. It must be light UP to indicate that Tor is running. Otherwise you will not have Internet connection.

Tips:

  1. Change SSID and Key after first time setup
  2. Turn off SSID “OpenWrt” after you finish settings your router. In 6416, press the Reset button. In AR150, move the switch to the left.

Troubleshooting:

For 6416:

  1. I didn’t see both SSID “OpenWrt” and “Tor”.  //_ solution: a) Press the RESET button once to turn on the wifi.  b) Press and hole the RESET button for 8 seconds to revert to factory settings_
  2. I cannot connect to any website. // _solution: a) Your router is connecting to Tor and it needs some time; b) Connect to ssid “OpenWrt” and set up the router at http://192.168.8.1  _
  3. I cannot connect to http://192.168.8.1. //solution: You cannot get access to the router UI if connected to “Tor” or using cable, connect to SSID “OpenWrt”.
  4. I cannot connect to Tor network. _//solution: a) Ensure that you are connecting to SSID Tor or using cable; b) Ensure your mini router have Internet access; check this by connecting to “OpenWrt” and set up at http://192.168.8.1; c) Tor network needs some time to get stable. Leave it connected to the network all the time and you will have better connections. _

For AR150:

  1. I cannot see SSID “OpenWrt”. // solution: a) You have to move the switch to the right side to enable SSID “OpenWrt”; b) If you don’t have SSID “Tor”, press the RESET button to enable wifi.
  2. I cannot see SSID “OpenWrt” and “Tor”.  //solution: a) Press the RESET button to toggle Wifi. b) Revert to factory settings by pressing and holding the RESET button for more then 8 seconds; c) The LED on the right must be on to indicate wifi is on.
  3. I cannot connect to http://192.168.8.1. //solution: You cannot get access to the router UI if connected to “Tor” or using cable, connect to SSID “OpenWrt”.
  4. I cannot connect to Tor network. _//solution: a) Ensure that you are connecting to SSID Tor or using cable; b) Ensure your mini router have Internet access; check this by connecting to “OpenWrt” and set up at http://192.168.8.1; c) the middle LED must be on. It indicates the status of tor process;  d) Tor network needs some time to get stable. Leave it connected to the network all the time and you will have better connections. _
